Sadly, LED technology (even for conventional rather than specialty lighting) is being sold as "premium products", rather than a price that makes them attractive to consumers.
On the clearly positive side, the big increase in light output with good color temperature, makes LED's a natural for applications where greater numbers of fixtures is not viable, or adesirable model to achieve security/safety via 'Dark Skies' compatible lighting and a visually-appealing aesthetic.
Reduced need to service the fixtures makes a further saving for customers and their greater satisfaction with their supplier/specifier of equipment and perception of their installer as someone interested in addressing their needs as a customer ... simplicity of operation and maintenance without need of routine periodic calls for a technician to deal with 'issues'.
I am out of the 'incandescent' line of lighting as of receiving my first shipment of these LED bulbs!
