The Hammer ground stake is made to withstand any ground application.  The brass insert is highly recommended to insure a proper connection with the light fixture being used.

I ordered a bunch of lights for backyard. I was somewhat unhappy with the standard, free, hammer stake.  These are the only ones worth getting, IMHO.
The others tend to allow cross-threading etc. Brass inserts work great.

I complained to VOLT a couple of years ago that the traditional ground stake would occasionally get cross-threaded and once that happened it was unusable.  

I can't take credit for the brass insert, but it was a smart, simple move that easily solved the problem.  I am most pleased that VOLT is listening to their customers and implementing the feedback into future enhancements.

Another well made product by this company.  I was  pleasantly surprised that they really dig into the ground and secure the fixtures very well.  I suggest you get the brass insert too - it's peace of mind for me just in case someone or something accidentally bumps into your fixture.

Go this route.  Depending on ground surface, can't go wrong with metal vs. plastic.  All fixtures adapted well to the metal inserts, including final positioning.

Brilliant design and it makes it so so easy to replace those crappy plastic stakes that come standard with most metal lights. HIGHLY recommend getting this with the brass insert for extra rigidity. Bought 15 of these and slowly replacing the old standard, plastic stakes as they break. The slot on the side for the wire is a god send! No more having to re-cut and re-wire for a replacement stake. So simple an idea, yet genius!
